Who can be sponsored?
Eligible sponsors may be able to sponsor a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child. Other family categories have separate rules and may have limited intake.
What does the sponsor need to consider?
Sponsor eligibility, residence requirements and financial responsibilities depend on the category and circumstances. The applicant must also meet the applicable requirements.
What should we review?
The relationship, sponsor’s status and residence, previous sponsorship obligations, applicant’s status and evidence needed for the particular application.
Does sponsorship guarantee approval?
No. IRCC assesses the sponsor and applicant, relationship evidence and applicable requirements. A complete application and realistic expectations are essential.
